About frunt

What is frunt?

frunt is software that uses AI to work from your restaurant's own documents. It reads your policies, procedures, menus and allergen matrix, and drafts the ones you're missing. Your team can then ask it questions in plain words and get answers from those documents, with the source shown, and learn them through short courses, with a dated record of who has done what.

The AI is Anthropic's Claude, which reads your documents and writes the answers and courses, and OpenAI, which indexes them for search. Allergen answers aren't left to AI: they come only from the allergen matrix you've checked. If frunt can't find something in your documents, it says so. Your documents are only used for your restaurant and never to train AI, no document or course reaches your team until you've checked it, and the compliance stays yours.

Is this just ChatGPT for restaurants?

No. ChatGPT answers from what it learned, or from whatever files you give it. frunt starts from what a UK restaurant is expected to hold: it finds the documents you're missing and drafts them for you to check, answers only from the ones you've checked, with the source shown, and takes allergen answers only from your checked matrix. It also trains your team from those documents and keeps the dated record an inspector asks for, and when a document changes it shows who needs retraining.

Our paperwork isn't sorted. Can we still start?

Yes, and most restaurants start that way. frunt shows you the documents a place like yours is expected to keep, drafts the ones you're missing for you to check, and we work through the rest with you.

Does it work for a pub or a café?

Yes. frunt is for independent pubs, cafés and restaurants alike. You tell it whether you serve food and alcohol, and what it expects you to hold follows from that: a pub that serves alcohol is asked for a responsible alcohol service policy (Challenge 25, and who may sell alcohol), and its team can be trained on it alongside food hygiene and allergens.

Will my staff be on their phones during service?

No. frunt is for the moments around service: a new starter learning the ropes, a quick check before a shift, a short course on a quiet afternoon. The point is that your team arrives already knowing.

What happens with allergen questions?

frunt answers them only from your checked allergen matrix, never from loose text. If a dish isn't on the matrix, or hasn't been checked, frunt refuses and says why, so nobody gets a confident wrong answer.

Who can see our documents?

Your team sees the documents you choose for each role, and nothing else. Your documents are only used for your restaurant, and staff certificates, right-to-work documents and pay are never read by frunt's AI.

Does it work on WhatsApp?

Yes. frunt has its own WhatsApp number. You and your team each link a phone to it once, then message it like anyone else. It answers from your documents, ends each reply with its sources and the date, and follows the same allergen rule as everywhere else. Only numbers linked to your restaurant get answers from your documents. Not using frunt yet? Message the same number with any questions before your walkthrough, or book the walkthrough to speak to a person.

How long does setup take?

A few short sessions rather than one long one. You can start with whatever you have, and we set it up with you.

What does it cost?

One flat monthly fee, banded by the size of your team, from £79 a month. No VAT is added: the price shown is what you pay. Adding staff inside your band costs nothing, and there's a 30-day confidence guarantee: if it isn't for you, tell us within 30 days and we'll refund your first month's payment.

Training and the law

What training does UK law require for restaurant staff?

Food hygiene for anyone who handles food, and allergens, so that what your team tells a guest is accurate. On top of that come fire safety, a health and safety induction, safe use of cleaning chemicals and, where you sell alcohol, who may sell it and how they check age (Challenge 25). The law asks for training that fits each person's job, and for you to be able to show it.

Do my staff need a Level 2 food hygiene certificate?

The law doesn't name a certificate. Regulation (EC) No 852/2004, retained in UK law, asks that food handlers are "supervised and instructed and/or trained in food hygiene matters commensurate with their work activity", and you need to be able to show it. Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene for Catering is the recognised benchmark for anyone handling open food, and many restaurants use it.

frunt trains your team on your own procedures and keeps a dated record of it. It works alongside a Level 2 course, and records training your staff did elsewhere as exactly that.

Are frunt's courses accredited?

No, and we don't claim they are: no awarding body has accredited them. Each course is written from your own documents, names the law and the document each section relies on, and ends with a check your staff have to pass. Where a role needs an accredited qualification, such as a personal licence to sell alcohol, frunt doesn't replace it.

Will an environmental health officer accept frunt's training records?

Nobody can promise what an inspector will accept, and we don't. What they look for is evidence that each person who handles food is trained and supervised for the work they do. frunt keeps that evidence person by person: which course, which version of your document it came from, when they passed and their score, with training done elsewhere marked as such. You can download it as a PDF to hand over.
